Arhar dal

Delicious and simple dal which goes well with rice.

Ingredients

one katori arhar dal, half teaspoon of turmeric, one teaspoon of salt, one tablespoon of desi ghee, one teaspoon jeera, one chopped onion, 4 cloves of crushed garlic, 1/4 teaspoon of hing, 2 large pureed tomatoes, one chopped green chilli, juice of one lemon, chopped coriander.

Method

Take one katori arhar dal. Rinse it in water thrice. Put it in a cooker and add 3 1/2 cups of water. Half teaspoon of turmeric and one teaspoon of salt. Pressure cook it for 7 whistles. Take one tablespoon of desi ghee in a pan, when it is hot add one teaspoon jeera and fry for a few seconds add one chopped onion to it and let the onion brown. Add 4 cloves of crushed garlic and add 2 tablespoons of water. Add 1/4 teaspoon of hing and let it cook till water separates. Add 2 large pureed tomatoes and one chopped green chilli to it. Fry till the ghee separates and add this to the cooked dal. Add juice of one lemon to it before serving and garnish with chopped coriander. Goes well with rice.
