Matar pulao

Absolutely mouth watering dish which makes an excellent and nutritious light meal when served with curd.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups of rice, 1 medium onion, 1 large tomato, 1 cup shelled peas, 1 tablespoon oil or ghee, 1 teaspoon jeera, 1 teaspoon pepper corn, 1 inch piece of cinnamon, 4 pieces moti elaichi, 6 cloves, salt and red chili powder to taste.

Method

Take 1 1/2 cups of rice, wash and soak it in water. Take one medium onion, chop it long slivers or as you like, and chop one large tomato. Take one cup of shelled peas. Heat one table spoon of oil or ghee in a pan, when it is hot add one teaspoon of jeera, one teaspoon of pepper corn, one inch piece of cinnamon, 4 pieces of moti elaichi and 6 cloves. Let it fry for a minute, then add the chopped onions to the oil. After about a minute add the chopped tomatoes. When tomatoes are slightly tender add the peas. Fry this for another minute. Now add the rice along with the water to the pan. Add salt and red chili powder to taste. Once the water starts boiling bring the fire on slow and cover the pan and let it cook till all the water is absorbed and the rice are tender. Serve hot with curd.
