Dal Makhani

Ingredients

1 katori whole black urad dal, 3 glasses water, salt to taste, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 4 medium tomatoes, 8 to 10 pods of garlic, 2 green chilies, 2 tablespoons pure ghee, 1 1/2 cups of milk, 1 tablespoon kasuri methi, 1 teaspoon garam masala.

Method

Take one katori of whole black urad dal. Wash it and put it in cooker with 3 glasses of water. Add salt to taste and a teaspoon of turmeric. Grind together 4 medium tomatoes and 8 to 10 pods of garlic and 2 green chilies. Add this paste to the water and add 2 tablespoons full of pure ghee. Once full steam is there on the cooker put it on sim for 20 minutes. Switch off the gas. Once the steam has cooled down open the cooker and 1 1/2 cups of milk to the dal and 1 tablespoon of kasuri methi and one teaspoon of garam masala. Let it simmer with the lid off for another 10 minutes on slow fire. Serve hot with chapatis.
